How to Join the United States Space Force (USSF)
Recently, Beijing launched a hypersonic missile that cruised around the globe before deploying a glider that hit a target in China. This is big deal, and it’s only the tip of the technological iceberg. Resulting in an exponential increase in space-faring issues, the United States Space Force is defensively and strategically key and will play an indispensable role in shielding America as the world changes.
Being the newest wing of America’s Armed Forces, the U.S. Space Force is presently in need of personnel to fill in a variety of positions.
- Joining as a Military Member.
There are two ways you can join Space Force as a military fellow. First, you need to have passed Basic Training and have an Air Force career. Your transfer into Space Force will depend on the time in grade, service, and Air Force Specialty Code. Secondly, not all folks serving are allowed to transfer. All transfers require the cooperation and approval of the Department of Defense (DoD), Air Force, and Space Force. At present, there is no Guard and Reserve Force for the USSF, and any transfer from Reserve component troops isn’t accepted.
- Joining as a Recruit.
As a recruit, you can only join Space Force through an application to the Air Force website. You will need baseline military qualifications and will receive training after selection.
- USSF Military Jobs.
The list of Space Force careers for enlisted folks and transferred officers keeps growing. What you see today may be much longer in the future depending on mission requirements.
USSF careers for transferred officers require attendance at Officer Candidate School, technical training, on-the-job training, and commissioning. You need to pass security clearance screening and have the ability to hold onto and keep the appropriate clearance. Note that there is no Warrant Officer structure within the USSF.
Newly recruited members are required to pass professional military education, technical training, on-the-job training, and be able to acquire security clearance relevant to their positions.
