CIVILIANIZING THE MILITARY
Despite the complex nature of our world today, Mother nature still gives everyone an opportunity or a shot at a better life. While some see opt to venture into business, others prefer farming, medicine, law, real estate, etc. Despite this wide range of professions to choose from, a select few can help it but have the zeal and drive to serve their nation in whatever way they can.
Considering the jobs and opportunities available today to secure a better life for yourself and your family, patriots always want to give more and take things a little further. Not everyone loves and enjoys the 7-5 jobs. Some need something a little extra, like enrolling in the military (Marine) and displaying values such as Honor, Courage, And Commitment
United States Navy
Being a navy is a dream for many aspiring Americans with the passion and zeal for serving your nation diligently. Being a Navy, for starters, held in high esteem by all in the force, irrespective of the military branch, isn’t just about passion and drive. However, it entails hard work, determination, self-motivation, integrity, trustworthiness, respect, concern for others, honesty, law-abiding, promise-keeping, and fairness.
Civilianizing The Military
Before being called a Navy or graduating from the academy and becoming a navy, your status as a civilian becomes activated once you are not on duty. While this doesn’t stop you from performing specific tasks, it allows you to be what you used to be. Furthermore, sailors still have rules and regulations that oversee their civilian side.
Sailors And What They Stand For
Becoming a sailor is fun and, as earlier mentioned, takes more than determination. However, if you can pride yourself on Honor, Courage, and Commitment and make these three values your watchwords, abide by them, and represent all three at all times, you go a long way to becoming a phenomenal sailor.
Considering the tip above, sailors must, by all means, conduct themselves with honor; sailors must be answerable for their actions and conduct themselves ethically.
- Integrity
- Trustworthiness
- Respect
- Concerns for others
- Integrity
Integrity entails practicing honesty and showing a consistent and uncompromising adherence to strong moral and ethical principles and values. There is no way you can become a success in any work of life without any iota of integrity, let alone a Sailor.
- Trustworthiness
Talking about people with the quality of being dependable and or reliable, look no further than Sailors. They pride themselves on relying on each other to cover their back (that’s trust).
- Respect
Respect is one of the critical values or attributes of being a sailor. As a sailor, respect conveys a sense of admiration for good or valuable qualities, making this quality a must-have by all in the military (not just sailors alone).
- Concerns for others
It is within the nature of sailors to consider the needs and difficulties of others. Most importantly, take an active interest in their feelings, capabilities, and perspectives to assist them with whatever issues they have with integrity, warmth, and concern.
The second Navy core value is courage. Sailors must be courageous to do what is right when no one is looking. There are a lot of things we may have to do that require courage. In facing challenges and adversities, sailors must adhere to the highest standards of conduct. All of these help them act in the ship’s best interest, shipmate, and self. To achieve all of this, they must be
- Honesty
- Law-abiding
Lastly, commitment keeps the United States Navy and its members doing their job daily. Therefore, we must be dedicated to the team as well as ourselves.
- Promise-keeping
- Fairness
Final Note
Nothing feels better than serving your nation, especially as a sailor (navy). You pride yourself on continuous service to your country with Honor, Courage, and Commitment not just to the flag and the president’s office but most importantly to your fellow sailors, the military as a whole, and most importantly, the American people.
